There is a piece of good news in my inbox!

Sooo....I have got my first offer of a place for my Graduate Diploma in Law course!!
Whoop! Whoop!! It is a conditional offer, of course, but it is still good news and I am pretty
excited about it! I got it from Aston university, which is in Birmingham...I am still waiting to
hear from the others though. Fingers crossed! In the meantime, I have to be working
towards getting my degree, or else all this will just be a waste...which is a no-no,
considering the time I have spent in uni and all the money that has been paid-especially as
an international student.

Having said that, *clears throat*. I am going to Winter Wonderland this Sunday. Lool...I feel
really guilty because I have essays to submit; but it is one of my closest friend’s birthday
and that is all she is asking of me...plus I have always wanted to go to Winter Wonderland.
As such, I will be working extra time to get most of the work completed, so that I only feel
half guilty. :D Hehe.

Most of my friends have left or are leaving to Ghana for Christmas again, which makes me
really jealous, as I haven’t been back there since I entered uni in 2010. I have high hopes
that I will be there next year though-I miss the food and heat. I do have a couple of friends
staying behind and we plan to not stay indoors and have a boring Christmas, just because
it is cold outside...so far, I have a Christmas ball (what to wear?!) on the day I submit my
last coursework for the semester and dinner with friends on another day. I will also be with
my big brother and his family in Birmingham on Christmas day...and then off to Essex to
see my cousins for a couple of days. It should be fun.

Hope everyone gets to finish all their work on time so that we can all have a lovely
holiday!!

Until my next post...

Hello December!

It is December!! That means Christmas is near and the end of semester is fast
approaching. Whoohoo!! That also means that there are a thousand and one deadlines
waiting for me before I go on Christmas break. :(

I honestly cannot wait for this semester to be over so that I can catch a little break. It is like
the more I do my work, the more it piles up; and the fact that I am always sleepy does not
help matters. I am confident, though, that I will survive. *In dramatic movie voice*

Anyway, after all the stress last month, I finally found a place which is much better suited
to my needs and I have moved. It is about a 20 minutes bus journey to uni, which is good
and I only have to share the apartment with one person. This means less drama and less
noise-and this is exactly what I need at this point in my life. I also completed my personal
statement and application for the Graduate Diploma in Law and I have contacted my
referee; so that has been sorted. The only thing I am left to do is finish my coursework and
plan for Christmas; because I intend to have fun this Christmas. *dancing*

Oh...guess what happened to me last week! I dislocated my knee. It was so random! I was
sitting crossed legged on my bed eating some crisps when my knee cap just popped out
and I had to push it back. *shudder* I have been traumatised since then; but I have been
putting off a GP’s appointment till now...I really should go and see my GP...anyway, the
pain has greatly reduced now and I am not limping anymore, so I guess I am fine.Lol.

Wishing all those who have exams this month the best of luck and to the rest of us who
have coursework, keep going hard! It will all be over (and worth it) soon!

Byeee for now!!

Reading Week

It is such a relief that I have got reading week this week! The work was piling up too quickly and I was not too sure if I could keep up.  * wipes sweat *

So this week is meant for catching up on readings, seminar preparation work and starting assessments; and any wise person would make good use of it. I am currently out of London (at an unknown location :p) and I am loving it.  I have some peace and quiet away from friends and all the hustle and bustle of London to concentrate on what I have to do…and I am also enjoying the change in environment.

Halloween is here and unfortunately I have not made any plans to celebrate it; however, from what I have been seeing around, it looks like people are not taking it easy at all and are really enjoying themselves!! I am jealous!! Lol. Here is a picture from last year’s Halloween with friends though. It is a bit weird that the date is in the future…Oh; and that is me on the far left. I honestly do not know what I was supposed to be…I guess I was some kind of female monster…lol

Anyway, I have been thinking a lot about what I will be doing with my life after uni next year (apart from the GDL) and I think I would like to divert a little bit and do a couple of things that I have had an interest in over a long period of time…such as interior decoration. I know this is so different from Law and a lot of people have been questioning me about it; but I would like to do something totally different (and well, a bit more interesting) on the side. I am not giving up on Law though! I am just trying to add a little variety to my life. Hehe…so we will see how that goes.
I hope everyone else is having a fun-filled and scary Halloween! Looking forward to seeing the pics!

Stressed and dreading winter!

I have been so stressed these past couple of weeks! There has been a lot of work to do, in terms of uni and I am finding it a challenge to wrap my head around some topics; and to top it off, my housemates suddenly want to move out and so I am under pressure to find another place to rent in the next month...just the thing I was trying to avoid-Last minute pressure. So now I’ve got pages open on my laptop advertising places to rent and other pages with assignments waiting for me to do...Sometimes I am not sure if I can keep up with it all. *sigh*

Well, at least I am improving on my time management. Third year is not a joke. Lol!
It is getting cold again (I am DREADING winter!)...the scarves and boots are coming out again; and it has become a struggle to get out of bed for my early Thursday morning lectures and Sunday church...hehe but I have still got that 1st class or 2:1 on my mind.
I have also finally decided on my three choices for my GDL (Graduate Diploma in Law) - University of Birmingham, Aston University and Nottingham Law School. I chose institutions outside London because London is just too expensive, compared to other places so I figured I would save a bit of money...so hopefully, I do well this year and get into one of these Universities.
So far, nothing too exciting is happening or has happened; however I am actually looking forward to meeting new people when I move to whichever new place I find...and I will keep you updated on that.
I’m off to decide on whether to write my GDL personal statement first or do my Company Law seminar work.
Toodles!

Third Year

Hi there! I am finally back in uni for my third year (actually, I have been back for about a week now) and I am pumped for this year. I have got a 1st class or at least a 2:1 on my mind and so I’m going to put in everything I have got to achieve this...

This academic year started with a few hiccups for us combined students as it seemed we were left out of a lot of things going on...however, this has been sorted now and hopefully, everything will run smoothly till the end... It has also been great seeing my course mates again after the long summer holidays J. At the moment, I am quite busy with a couple of things apart from my current uni work. I am planning to do my GDL (Graduate Diploma in Law) next year (this is for non-law students who want to get a Law degree...since I am doing a combined course of Law and Business, I do not get a full Law degree) and so I have started trying to find some colleges/universities that would best suit me. Also, I have started looking for yet another place to rent (yes, AGAIN)....but this is for February next year when my current rent contract ends...I just decided to start the search early to avoid last minute stress.

Apart from these, nothing really exciting is happening at the moment, as I am trying get everything sorted out in time. Hopefully all my plans will fall through.

I hope all the new and continuing students are settling in well and remember there are always people to help if any difficulties arise.

Till the next post, it is bye for now!

Thursday 6 September 2012

Almost time to start!

Hello there! We are finally in September and guess what that means? The new university year begins!!

It is pretty exciting especially for new students coming from college, who do not really know what to expect (or who may have great expectations) and that is a good attitude to keep because with that, you are sure to be more involved with your lectures/seminars and other things happening around the university. For me, I am a little bit frightened. THIRD YEAR! I am finally here and the fact that I will be graduating (Amen) in a few more months scares me, because the pressure of succeeding will be greatly increased. Dum-Dum-Dummm…

For the new students, here are a few things you need to know:

  • There are two parts to registration; Part one is done online and Part two is done in the university’s student centre. You need to complete Part one of registration before you can move on to Part two.
  • If you are looking to stay on campus, you should have applied for accommodation by now or in the process of applying. If not, you can contact the Accommodation offices on 02083319664 (Avery Hill), 02083319063 (Medway) and on 02083318884 (Greenwich) to find out if there are still spaces and which steps to take next.
  • Make sure you attend all meetings during induction and introductory lectures (especially international students), as a lot of vital information is given during those times.
  • We have got bookshops on all our campuses which have the recommended textbooks available for your course…if not there’s amazon and ebay ;)
  • Feel free to take part in Fresher’s week and the parties and events that will be held, as that is one of the easiest ways to make friends.
  • Be ready to go broke every now and then, but with good planning and our Jobshop, it should not be too bad. ;)
  • Finally, do not be frightened/panicked about coming to university. There are more than enough people around who are willing to help you have a wonderful university experience J

…And for those still looking to come into university this year, it is a bit late BUT we are still taking applications for some courses. Try to call us as soon as possible on 02083319000 to find out if you can still get a place for this year.

Good Luck everyone!

Randoms…and Clearing

I just realised I never gave an update on the end of year examinations I wrote in May. Well, I passed. J I do not sound too enthused about it because I did not get the grades I was hoping for in Law (Business was really good though)…I knew I was having a hard time with Law but with the effort I put into the studies, I was hoping for a more decent grade...ah well, at least it has inspired me to work a lot harder in my third year, using WILL.I.AM’s slogan; “You can go hard or you can go home”. ;)

Moving on, the BBQ my friends and I had was great! The weather was lovely, a lot of friends I had not seen in ages came over, and there was SO MUCH FOOD -too much food even; we had to take some home for the next week (good news for my housemates and I lol)…In short I had a lot of fun.

I also got to see The Dark Knight Rises on the day it came out, which I loved. The picture below shows my favourite scene…I do not want to say too much about it in case some people have not yet watched it…hehe

http://the-darkofthenight.tumblr.com/post/27880762548/do-you-feel-in-control-now-bane-tdkr

The next movie in line for me is TED. :D After reading Godplayer (Robin Cook) and City of Bones (Cassandra Clare), I went back to continue Fifty Shades Darker K I know, I know….but I just don’t like leaving books unfinished. Well I have finished that and I am now on Fifty Shades Freed…I am still rolling my eyes at the excessive explicit content *cough*; but at least there is a new twist to the story, which I like…so I guess that is good (y).

Finally, yes I am still working at the Enquiry unit and yes we are in Clearing. I would advise that you read the Clearing blogs which are frequently updated here: http://greenwich-clearing2012.blogspot.co.uk/ and call us on 0208 331 9000 so that you keep yourself informed on what is happening and what to do about any situation that you may have.

Until the next post, it is bye for now. J

50 Shades of Monotonous

So after all the hype about E.L James’ trilogy, I finally decided to find out what all the fuss was about. To be honest I found Fifty Shades of Grey very interesting and intense…James managed to describe things I wouldn’t dare mention…HOWEVER, when I moved on to the second book, I started to get a bit bored.

It was almost the same as the first book…I mean the intensity and vivid descriptions were still there but there was nothing new or exciting anymore…I just knew what to expect as I flipped the pages. We all get interested when discussions are raised about sex; but really, is that all there is to life? What about comedy and suspense?

I stopped reading it, and now I have moved on to Godplayer by Robin Cook…and it is so far quite enjoyable. J

In other news, the sun finally decided to show its face again after weeks of rain and wind and we have made use of it. We (members of the Clearing team) had a lovely picnic after work and a game of rounders. It was really fun! This weekend, some friends and I are having a BBQ-It is probably not going to be as hot as the last couple of days-it might even rain; but there’s no stopping us!

I have been working all week so there is not much happening in my life but I do hope everyone else is having a restful/fun/profitable summer!

How Not to Date

Imagine my disappointment when after three weeks of talking to a guy, we arranged a dinner date and his idea of a meal was KFC.

I mean KFC!! *Covers face* I do not have anything against KFC-don’t get me wrong…In fact I love KFC. However, taking a girl you have never met but claim to like, that is a definite no-no.

It all started when my very good friend decided to introduce me to this guy, let us call him D. D and I got along quite well over the phone, so we agreed to meet up. The thing is, D decided to call it a DATE. D made me choose what we would do, what time to meet and where to meet-he left all the work for me.

…So I told him to meet me in Marble Arch, with the hopes of going to a nice Lebanese restaurant there. I got dressed up in a smart-casual outfit, made sure my makeup was on point and went out to meet him. I looked good! ; )

15 minutes later than agreed, D finally showed up in a pair of scruffy jeans and hooded sweater, not looking at all like anyone who was supposed to be on a date. I, being a tolerant and patient person decided not to dwell on his lateness and dressing and went on with the “date”.

I started walking towards the Lebanese restaurant, when D suddenly turned and entered KFC….without even asking me where or what I wanted to eat! o_0

So here’s me, all dressed up for a date…in KFC. I did not eat. I just lost all appetite. What ever happened to first impressions?!

Anyway after dinner, we went to see a movie. Well, he saw the movie while I spent half the time trying to get his hands off my thighs or around my shoulders…*shudder*… Now I’m no prude, and I know how guys think, BUT come on, what dude thinks I’m going to allow him to get intimate after being treated to a KFC???? Needless to say, he did get an elbow in the ribs as a deterrent. Well he actually got a few elbows before the ‘’date’’ ended!

Morale of the story … guys if you claim to really like a lady, make an effort and treat her like a lady!

SINGLE LADIES

No, I am not about to bore you with stories about my love life. Lol... I am just addicted to this new TV show, Single Ladies, which I started watching about two weeks ago...and I think you should check it out; yes, even the guys (I have caught a couple of guys who swear they do not watch such shows, watching it- It is that good!) At least you will have something to do this summer if you have no plans at all....If you do watch one episode and you do not like it, then I am sorry for wasting your time...

I am back at work at the Enquiry Unit in the university and I am working for the whole week this week, instead of the usual one day a week during term time. This means that I am going to be quite busy all week and may not have time to hang out with my friends as much....Looking at the bright side though, I will be making some money and may be able to afford a trip out of this country as I said I wanted to in the previous post.

In more exciting news, a friend of mine from back in high school is about to get married! This has created quite a stir among my group of friends, as it has reminded us that indeed, we are growing up and will one day be in her shoes...hmm...I do not know if that is scary or exciting...
Anyway, after months and months of lessons and procrastination, I am finally planning to go and take my driving theory test soon (I have finally gathered the courage and confidence....I think) and if I pass, fingers crossed, I will go on to take the practical test. Wish me luck people! I will let you know how that goes.

Well, that is it for now; and so until the next post, it is bye for now!

xo :)

STAYING FIT

Hi guys!! Here is an update of what I have been doing with my life since the last blog post. I have taken my ‘fitness program’ to the next level. In the past couple of weeks, I have been playing a lot of basketball and doing a lot of swimming, which is great, because those two are my favourite sports. Also, I have had a lot of friends around me who enjoy almost the same things as me so this has made it a lot easier for me.

The past weeks have been quite fun, actually; I went off to Birmingham and Essex for a while to visit family and friends; and as summer is here, a lot of my friends from back in Ghana have come over to spend the holidays here. It is always a full house where I stay, which is great-not a single day of boredom. However this can be annoying sometimes when I have to wake up early the next day for something important and there is so much noise in the house...I guess I cannot eat my cake and have it, can I?

I am also slowly improving on my cooking (which was not really excellent) and I have a dream of visiting another nearby country for a weekend....I just hope I am able to discipline myself enough to save for it...until then we will see...

I hope everyone else is having an awesome summer despite the bi polar nature of the British weather and hopefully all your plans fall through!!

See you in the next post! xo :)

Summer! Summer! Summer!

So summer is finally here and it is blazing hot! I am not complaining though - I have had enough of sweaters and jackets.

Two days after completing my exams I started my running plan (which my house mates thought I would never get to  :P)...and that was when I discovered how unfit I am! 10 minutes into the run and my chest was already about to burst...20 minutes, and I thought I was going to die. Lol...I am not giving up though, I will keep going till I can run a whole hour without any problems.

One of my housemates and I have also started working on our garden (which at the moment looks like a forest). Very soon it is going to look like something at the back of a 5-star hotel. Hehehe....I will post the before and after pictures later (IF our plans work out and we don’t get too lazy and give up). Oh yea....we found a snail. Lol:

Summer has started quite well for me (except for a little illness, which will pass soon) and I hope it gets even better as time goes on. I am definitely not going to allow myself to get depressingly bored like I did last summer. Uh-uh.

Apart from work, I plan to visit Brighton one of these weekends and just enjoy the beach...so far the only plans I have got are working, getting fit, improving our garden and beach visits....as the summer goes on, I will definitely be up to a couple of new things...

I hope you are all enjoying the sun and that your summer goes as planned!

XOXO!

Exams are over! It is time to chill!

Hello there! I am pretty excited and relieved that exams and all forms of pressing academic work are finally over!! Let me tell you about how my examinations went...

As I mentioned earlier, I had two 3hr15mins papers to write - Contract and Criminal Law. I wrote Contract Law first and to my surprise, the paper was not as bad as I was expecting! Well, it is probably because I knew I had problems with Contract Law and so spent a lot of time on it...Criminal Law on the other hand, not so good. I mean, I remembered principles and tried my best to apply them to the facts of the scenarios we were given; however when it came to remembering cases (I cannot stress enough on how essential cases are) to back these principles up, I went a bit blank. I could only remember a few! *sigh* I’m just praying and hoping that at least I did not write rubbish and my work was not too bad...

My birthday came three days before my first paper, and as it was my 21st, a few friends and I decided to have a little celebration, despite the fact that exams were just around the corner, which I really appreciated...so we went out to the O2, had dinner, watched a movie, came back home for a couple of drinks and then it was back to the books. The celebration however has not ended...we will definitely have a proper party in June. Whooohooo!!!

Summer plans have started and I will keep you updated on how much fun I am having, or how bored I am. Hehe. Till then, it is Toodles!!

P.S:
Good luck to those STILL writing exams...it becomes really difficult when you see others relaxed and having fun in the sun; while you are stuck with the books....my heart goes out to you.

Wednesday 2 May 2012

STUDY TIME!

It is ironic how we, well a lot of students, complain about boredom during holidays, when we have got very little or no academic work and then when we have to study, there are suddenly a hundred and one interesting things to do!

Exams are fast approaching and everyone is caught up in some work. I have got two papers to write in May-Contract and Criminal Law; and I feel slightly worried-especially about Contract Law...I am trying my best to cover as much as possible and understand the concepts and hopefully I will be fine with the exams.

The weather is not helping at all! The clouds and rain just make me want to sleep all day long, or just cuddle up in bed, watching movies. I think my ability to focus is being put to the test...

Apart from the exams, my housemate and I have both got our 21st birthdays in May as well!! I would have given a little “whoop” but its exams period so no one is really going to have time for birthdays L ....we are thinking of celebrating it together in June though, when everyone is done with exams and in a good mood...hehe...so I will let you know how that goes.

Well, I have got to go now; Criminal Damage is calling my name (that is one of the topics I am studying for the exams) and so until the next post, its byee and GOOD LUCK to those writing exams and to those who still have coursework to do!

Monday 9 April 2012

Les Misérables

No, I am not miserable. Lol. It is the name of a movie which has got some of its scenes on our Greenwich campus, which is pretty exciting. I watched a bit of the filming when I went there to collect a booklet. You can look at some pictures here:

Anyway, let us talk about the Easter break. It was fine, thank you for asking...hehe...I am not going to lie though....one bit of studying was not done. I tried....I even opened some books; but that was where it ended. All I spent my time doing was sleeping, managing to sprain BOTH my ankles, catching up on episodes of Nikita, Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl and 90210 that I had missed during the coursework time, sleeping some more, eating and oh, did I mention sleeping? I did think about studying for exams but I just could not bring myself to it. I kept justifying myself by saying I needed to rest after all the stress I had been through in February and March.

Haha...of course I am not going to leave studying to the week before examinations! Failure would be my portion if I did that! I have gotten enough rest now and started studying. Luckily, the dates I write my two papers are close to each other and so I will be done with exams in no time.

I hope you all had a good rest as well, during the break and energised for the rest of the term’s work!

My plate is full!

Yes. There is too much to do this month and I honestly don’t know how I am still breathing. I have had to do so many last minute things recently, which is not something I usually do. It is partly my fault though. I have not planned very well this month and I am bearing the consequences, which is panic and stress. Anyway, I am a survivor (Destiny’s Child voice) so I know I’ll finish everything on time and still have a smile on my face at the end of it all.
In more interesting news, I visited the Harrow College yesterday to help give mock interviews to sixth formers; and I must say it was very interesting! I loved every bit of it and I will definitely do it again, if I am ever given the chance. When going, I thought all I had to do was ask the students questions that are usually asked during interviews, give them tips on how to improve their C.Vs and presentation skills, and most importantly feel like a boss (Lol, just joking!); however, I learnt so much! Most of these students were very confident and knew what they wanted to do with their lives. Some of them told me about some jobs they had done and how some certain equipments work and some IT terms they had learnt. It was a great experience, and that is the ray of sunshine I have got breaking through the dark clouds of coursework this week. J

I do have to continue my work now...hopefully, my next post will be void of the word “coursework”, as I am sure everyone is tired of it by now.

Toodles!

Forget Y.O.L.O.....YMEP-That’s the Motto ;)

Hi everyone!!! I am in such a good mood today, despite the fact that I have got a lot of piled up work waiting for me and a test to prepare for. Maybe it is because I just attacked some donner kebab after waiting the whole day to eat...mmm....Ah well, whatever it is, I am glad I am in this mood.

I told you some time ago that I would be moving houses and that I would give you an update later. Well, my friends and I have FINALLY moved in!! You cannot imagine the amount of stress and disappointment we had to undergo...but as they say, it gets tough before it gets better...we are settling in quite well and our lives are returning to normal. *whew* J What does the title of this post mean anyway? You may ask....Well, Y.O.L.O (You Only Live Once) is actually the musician, Drake’s new mix tape title and hip hop lovers have been using it a lot these days to justify some things they do..Lol..Like if someone is drinking too much in one night or taking a risk, all they have to say to justify themselves is YOLO....It is being abused though. Hehe.

With YMEP....that’s the name we have given to our house....The YMEP villa...and trust me-you don’t want to know what it means!

I just realised that I keep telling you I will update you on one thing or the other...and then I forget. I am sorry! About my friend’s 21st birthday, we had a surprise formal dinner for him at Brown’s at West India Quay. It is a very nice place actually, and the food is good. We all got dressed up (guys in their suits and girls in their sexy dresses and heels ;)), had some good food and wine and then went to a club after. It was quite fun! We were actually planning to get an *cough* “exotic dancer” *cough* for him, just to embarrass him; but things did not work out the way we wanted them to....and it was probably for the best. Hehe.
Yesterday, the 6th of March was also my beloved homeland, Ghana’s 55th Independence Day celebration. Whoop whoop! God bless Ghana!

Let us talk about my academic life now...I got my Value Chain Management results and I actually did much better than I thought I would (remember I was so bored with the assignment that I felt it would reflect in my work?)...thank goodness!

I am still struggling with Contract Law, still enjoying Criminal Law and traumatised by the amount of work I have got to do for Project Planning and Management and Information Systems. Lool. Is this life??
I have got to go now and so, until the next post, it’s YOLO!! Live your life to the fullest ‘cos You Only Live Once J

Coursework Stress!

Hey there! It’s that time of the year when every lecturer wants their coursework and forgets that you are human and not a robot. -__-  Lol. I just completed my Criminal Law coursework about automatism, insanity and intoxication and I feel so relieved. It was only 1,500 words but it took me a really long time to complete. I’m not blaming anyone though-I have been procrastinating a little. I am loving Criminal Law (more than Contract Law, which I never seem able to get my head around)...It is really interesting and we read about all these shocking and sometimes funny cases. It may interest you to know that insanity is not necessarily a mental illness....you could be classified as insane if you have diabetes for example, and your lack of insulin caused you to act violently...yea...the law is very controversial.

I have also been having some housing issues recently, hence the picture up there. February has been a very stressful month for my really close friends and I and I cannot wait for it to be March. Hopefully, with even more sunshine, everyone will smile a bit more and not feel too burdened by the work load and other problems which may crop up.

I have four more pieces of coursework to complete before the end of March, plus the weekly assignments (oh happy days!) Hehe....but I have got some motivation from a friend of mine who has just graduated with a pharmacy degree (another tough course) and so I am sure I will survive..lol.

Good luck to everyone doing some form of work and with that, I leave you with this song: Concentrate by Xzibit (hehehe ignore the rest of the lyrics of the song and concentrate on the chorus..lool) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syBr-7WPSo8

Half and Half

Hello people! This month has been one of those ones that I wish could hurry up and pass by; there have been so many stress filled times and disappointments that it is even hard to believe. There have been some good moments though, like getting surprise cupcakes and chocolates from my friends on Valentines Day (aww I am loved! lol) and going ice skating at the Canary Wharf Ice Rink (I am doing quite well-I only fell about five times).

I hardly have time these days though, having to deal with housing issues and coursework. Oh coursework, coursework, coursework... *sigh*. I am not the only one feeling the strain from the workload though-everyone is complaining. I find that a bit comforting because I know I am not alone in this. Lol. I need some serious motivation right now because all I want to do these days is sleep and not bother about school work-and that is not a good sign.

It is one of my close friend’s 21st birthday and we are planning a surprise for him....I probably shouldn’t say too much on here in case he reads it; but it will be this weekend and I am looking forward to it-I do need to release some stress. Releasing stress will however come with its consequences, like not finishing coursework on time; so I am being wise and completing at least 80% of my work today-just to be safe....I will let you know what happens this weekend. J

Talk to you soon!

Friday 27 January 2012

Let’s move!

In the almost two years I have been here, I have moved houses about ten times (OK.  I’m exaggerating. Lol); but I have moved around quite a number of times, and every time I learn something new; and so I have decided to share what I know.

In the beginning it seems like finding a nice place to stay and moving is not much of a big deal....But IT IS! It can be extremely stressful and draining especially if you are not really sure of anything that is happening.
As a student, your budget is most likely going to be tight; and so if you want to rent a private accommodation, you would like to be able to fit your rent into that budget and still enjoy the house...and so here are a few tips. J

Be certain of the amount of money you want to pay each month, including bills. You do not want to agree to pay a certain amount and later realise you have to pay electric, water, gas, transportation fees, food, clothes and the occasional (or many) nights out (and by then your funds are very low or zero o_0!! ). Students get exemption from council tax, by the way (find out more here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/UniversityAndHigherEducation/LifeAtUniversityOrCollege/DG_071488 )

  • Share! Share! Share! Find people you get along with and share a house/flat. This reduces the amount of money you would have to pay monthly; and I have realised that the more rooms in a house, the less the rent is for each person. So it may be a good idea to become more sociable J
  • There are quite a lot of websites you can find properties on (zoopla, student.spareroom, findaproperty, etc. Google is also a very powerful toolJ). You can also walk into one of the many agencies in your town centre-but mind you! Although finding a place with agents is much easier, they charge administration fees and many other little fees...and so, if you would rather not incur extra costs you should try to deal directly with landlords.
  • Be ready to make a lot of bookings, phone calls and bus/train trips.
  • Keep your rent in mind when you are out chilling/shopping-we want to leave a good impression by paying on time, don’t we? J
  • Remember to change your address at your bank, uni and other important institutions.
O.K  so these are the few tips I have got for you...there are a lot more things you may need to know; but I think you should be fine with these basic pointers.

Time for feeling like a property agent is over. Lol....in other news, I cannot wait to complete university!!! I have got one more year to go; and honestly, I feel like it is not coming fast enough...all I want is sleep!! Is that too much to ask? L Lol! I’m also hoping it doesn’t snow...If I’m falling down on dry pavements; imagine what is going to happen to me if it snows x__x Hehe...

Anyway, as usual I have got some form of assignment to complete and so I shall end here. Take care and happy house hunting (if that’s what you are doing.)!

We All Fall Down

I fell down today. HARD. On the road. In front of everyone.

Embarrassed? Yes...and let’s not even talk about the pain on my behind and wrists. It was quite funny though, because the road (sidewalk actually) was completely dry-no snow (obviously), no water, no stump, no leaf; so everyone just had that “how did that happen?” look. An old lady who could not even walk herself stopped and asked me if I was okay-after she had finished laughing at me...I may have to do something about my boots...

Anyway, Happy New Year to everyone!! I’m a bit late; but we are still in the new month so I guess it still counts, right? Christmas was fine; it was pretty calm and quiet; but I had a bit of fun here and there. I met up with an old friend who was on holiday from America. She’s a model now...heheh...Nice!!!

Most of my free time was spent on doing Value Chain Management coursework though. L I found it soooo boring and frustrating because it was 4000 words, first of all, and secondly, I was not interested in how companies manage their supply chain, when I could be out having Christmas parties. Oh well! I managed to finish just on time and I hope my boredom didn’t reflect too much on my work..lol.

I just remembered I did not tell you how Sherlock Holmes went. It was great! Better than the last one-and the last one was really good. I knew Robert Downey Jnr. could never disappoint! I also got to see The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo-it is a really good one too, so if you have not watched these two movies, I suggest you do. J

In other news, we are back in uni uni uni! Back to presentations, essays, assignments and class discussions. It is good to see my classmates though; and I feel a lot more energised for this semester’s work than last semester. Let us hope this lasts!

I may be moving to a new apartment very soon, which I am quite excited about; and I will keep you posted about that in a couple of weeks.

Until then, its au revoir!
